چکیده
Biodiversity loss and invasive species are exacting negative economic, environmental societal impacts. While the monetary aspects of invasion have been well-assessed, their impacts on human social livelihood outcomes routinely remain obscure. Here, we empirically demonstrate several important health demographic consequences a 1970s pest cassava across sub-Saharan Africa. Pest-induced crop in 18 African countries relying heavily as staple inflicted cascading effects birth rate (?6%) adult mortality (+4%) over span decade. The 1981 scientifically-guided release specialist parasitic wasp Anagyrus lopezi restored yields, thus reconstituting food security these agricultural systems enabling parallel improvements indices. Our analysis shows how performance can influence outcomes, accentuates deliberate efforts to safeguard agro-ecological functions resilience could be during times global change. • Human facets invertebrate ecosystem services rarely assessed. Invasive induce system collapse nutritional deprivation. Biological control fortifies agro-ecosystem functionality security. A balance benefits collective welfare. Resilient, biodiverse farming central well-being.

Crop pathogen emergence and evolution in agro-ecological landscapes
Remnant areas hosting natural vegetation in agricultural landscapes can impact the disease epidemiology and evolutionary dynamics of crop pathogens. However, the potential consequences for crop diseases of the composition, the spatial configuration and the persistence time of the agro-ecological interface - the area where crops and remnant vegetation are in contact - have been poorly studied. H...

With progressively increasing anthropogenic habitat disturbances, restoration of impacted landscapes is becoming a critical element of biodiversity conservation. Evaluation of success in restoration ecology rarely includes faunal components, usually only encompassing abiotic and floral components of the ecosystems. Even when fauna is explicitly included, it is usually only species presence/abse...

Cropping systems information on explicit scales is an important but rarely available variable in many crops modeling routines and of utmost importance for understanding pests and disease propagation mechanisms in agro-ecological landscapes. In this study, high spatial and temporal resolution RapidEye bio-temporal data were utilized within a novel 2-step hierarchical random forest (RF) classific...
